James N. McKean

James N. McKean is a violin maker and restorer in New York City, as well as a corresponding editor to Strings magazine. After graduating from the Violin Making School of America in 1977, he spent several years in the atelier of Vahakn Nigogosian, learning the fine points of restoration and setup, before opening his own shop in 1982. He is a member of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers and has won awards for violin making in several international competitions.
